CNN, Politico and MS NOW are Suing The Trump
The three media outlets said they would protect their rights under the First Amendment after their journalists were suspended by the White House and their omissions were revoked
CNN, Politico and MS NOW have announced they are taking legal action against Donald Trump's administration after their journalists were denied access to the White House. The move followed a decision by the president to ban the access of the three media, and he accused them of publishing “fictions or lies”, News.bg reports.
Reporters of the three organizations were stopped in an attempt to enter the complex on September 19, and their lapses were deactivated or confiscated. CNN reports that his reporter, Betsy Klein, was told that her omission was disabled by Secret Service.
In a joint position, the three media outlets said they would defend their rights under the First Amendment and the principle that the government should not determine what to publish the media.
The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects freedom of speech and the press. It is on this basis that the upcoming litigation will raise the question of whether the administration can restrict the access of specific media to the White House because of the content of their publications.
Trump did not name a specific material that led to the decision. Subsequently, he explained that it was an accumulation of publications in recent years and accused the three media of deliberately negatively covering his rule.
The president also hinted that the list could expand. Among the media organizations he criticized were The New York Times and The Washington Post. Trump has repeatedly conflicted with U.S. and international media, and during his second term, his administration was also involved in other litigation with media organizations.
CNN, Politico and MS NOW have already signaled that they will protect their journalists' access in court. According to CNN, the claim is expected to be filed in the coming days, and the media can also request an emergency court measure to restore access.
